Newsletter - March 2008
It’s quite a while since my last newsletter and there is quite a lot to catch up on. I recently attended a trade fair in Birmingham where I saw some great products, some of which I have already ordered, and others are on my ‘want’ list. I’m hoping to find more interesting products when I visit Paris later this month.
I’ve been getting out and about recently, visiting several Embroiderers’ Guild groups, and had a great afternoon with Blackwater Quilters showing them some of the things they can do with Angelina. If you would like me to visit your group, either to bring things to sell, or to do a demonstration, get in touch to arrange a date.
For those of you with internet access, I’ve just started a blog – just go to www.craftarena.blogspot.com to find out more. I’m hoping this will allow me to find out about the things you would like to see in the studio, both in the retail side and in the workshops. I would like it to grow into a resource for my customers, and feature techniques and a gallery showing your work as well as mine. There are only a few messages from me so far, but do take part in our current survey, and leave me a message. The blog won’t replace the newsletter which will still be the focus of my customer contact.
Workshops
These have now been arranged until the end of May. As usual, you can find them on the website or enclosed with this newsletter if you receive it by post. If there are any techniques you would like to see covered next time, please do let me know.
New Stock
Oliver Twists threads are now in stock. I’ve started with 12 luscious colours of their Happy Bags and will gradually extend the range.
I’ve received a consignment of Anchor Stranded Cotton. I haven’t quite worked out how I’m going to display them yet, but at least they are here. These threads are generally used in counted cross-stitch, but can be utilised in all sorts of embroidery.
Search Press have launched a range of books including titles with ‘recipes’ for making necklaces, bracelets, charms, trading cards and Sarah Lawrence’s ‘Wild Women’ brooches. More titles will be released later in the year and these little books are already proving popular.
Alysn Midgelow-Marsden’s book Between the Sheets with Angelina is back in stock and I also have her latest book This Lustr’d Cloth which features some wonderful work with metals and fabric. I saw a preview of another metal/textile book at the trade fair which is due to be published soon – it looks brilliant, and I’ll definitely be stocking it!
I’ve also replenished my Angelina supplies. These always sell quickly, so if you have been waiting for more colours, visit soon.
One of the products I saw at the trade fair was knitted wire. I have seen this before, and it reminded me that I was going to get some to experiment with. Well, I’ve ordered a consignment, so you can experiment with me! It’s great for making jewellery and I’ve ordered some matching beads to go with it. I’ve already made a pretty necklace.
Coming Soon:
- Pinata Alcohol inks and Pearl Ex by Jacquard
- Fabric sheets for using with Inkjet printers in cotton, silk and organza
- More beads and findings
- Craftynotions Creative Colour Sprays
- A new range of polyester threads with a unique thread saver system
- Copper metal sheets
Workout Club
Our first Workout session will be held on 27th March. The first month is fully booked, but I am considering holding an additional session every month if there is enough interest. Please contact me if you would like to attend.
I hope to see you in the studio soon.
Best wishes,
Denise
